Camera Recommendations

As you would imagine, we have been taking countless photographs of Alexandra Grace, trying to record all the sweet moments of her life. Unfortunately, our camera does not seem to be getting the job done. Don't get me wrong - our little Canon Power Shot does a good job, but the delay on the digital camera is causing me to miss some fleeting smiles and laughter. As much as Alexandra smiles now, I have only been able to capture her smile in ONE picture because of the stupid delay on the camera. As such, I'm wanting to invest in something a little bit more high end, not a point and click. Can anyone give me some recommendations??

Nikon D60 or D40 SLR. Great camera!

I agree with Erica, I have a 2 year old and another one on the way so we upgraded to a Nikon D40 SLR and it is a dream! The guy at Best Buy said the Nikons are very user friendly for novices.

You can go to BestBuy.com and check out the digital cameras by type. We are looking for a nicer camera too and everyone keeps telling me about the Nikon D60.

I'm with Tina - we have the Canon Rebel and love it (though I have yet to figure out all the features).

To add to what I said earlier, the D60 has an anti-shake system while the D40 does not. If you aren't too steady (I'm not) the D60 may be better for you.

If you don’t mind taking the time to learn how to use a DSLR, you’ll be very happy with the results. I own a Canon largely because I always have and I’m happy with the results. I believe that there is enough parity amongst the manufacturers that there is little reason to favor one over another. I doubt you could go wrong as long as you buy enough camera to grow into. Once your technical ability improves, you’ll want some of the more advanced features you may not appreciate now.

You may want to set aside a substantial portion of your budget to a good lens and flash. Lenses that come bundled with camera bodies often end up on eBay because they’re severely lacking. There is a good chance that the lens will be more expensive than the camera so be sure not to spent too much on the body. A good flash will tilt & swivel, you’ll likely be disappointed in one that doesn’t have that feature.

Hey! Just wondering if you'd decided anything on a camera? We are a Canon family. Our point and shoot is Canon and our DSLR is alsoa canon, IMHO you can't go wrong. Just make sure you get one with great resolution.

The memory card also helps with the delay...get an ultra flash memory card for whatever camera you buy. I am such a photog. nerd now thanks to Jeremy's hobby of late. Alexandra is getting so big! Maybe I will meet her before she is in college :)
