christmas card outtake

just in case you are wondering...this one did **not** make the final cut for our holiday cards, though i laugh out loud every time i see it. oh, the turbulent roller coaster of emotions of a toddler....

confession of the day...

when we were growing up, my sister and i read a ridiculous amount of books. my love of reading was slightly diminished by the hundreds of pages i had to read of boring subjects such as torts and commercial transactions while in law school. these days, the constraints on my time that are imposed by being a full-time working mom seem to limit my reading to fashion and gossip magazines. over the past couple of months, i have found time to read this (i adore jen lancaster, so very funny), but wasn't able to finish either the shack or the time travelers wife, both of which are best-sellers. not sure why, i just couldn't bring myself to finish them - could be that pesky lack of time issue.

my sister suggested over the thanksgiving break that perhaps we could go to the theater and watch "new moon". i laughed at this, and noted that i wasn't interested in the twilight franchise, and even if i was, wouldn't i be behind since i had never even read any of the books? my sister quickly pointed out the error in my thinking, noting that twilight was (a) phenomenal, (b) not just for teens, and (c) a truly wonderful romantic story, one she liked even more than romeo and juliet. before she left for the weekend, she ran out and picked me up a copy of twilight and made me promise i would read it.

i picked it up on saturday, and by sunday night, i had read it cover to cover - mesmerized by every word! seriously, i could not put this book down! (even though my husband taunted me, asking me if i planned on asking the neighborhood teen set over for a sleepover to discuss whether we rooted for team edward or team jacob). what a wonderful love story and so well written. while i realize the intended audience of the series is young women, i can see why these books have mass appeal (much like harry potter). and dare i label a novel as ... sexy?? i think it is an apt description. as soon as i finished the book, i checked out on demand to see if twilight was a movie option - unfortunately it was not so it looks like i'll be making a trip to blockbuster one weekend soon. cannot wait to read the new moon, the second in the series...have you read any of the books? or am i the only female blogger over the age of 18 who will fess up that they love twilight??
