yeah, i know, not exactly a pressing question like "why are we here?", but it's a good question, nonetheless, and i'm sure women have been asking themselves this for centuries. and it is one i am struggling with now.
here's my fashion dilemma for which i need a complete intervention, hopefully from those of you more fashionable people who read this blog:
so...some friends of ours are getting married next month in hilton head and i am at a total loss as to what to wear. for starters, i have no idea what the weather will be like in south carolina in early october - i'm guessing that it will be in the 70s (hopefully?). so, do you wear a summery dress (with a wrap for the evening chill), even though it is technically fall? for instance, i found the beautiful dress below from jcrew that is on sale and my size is in stock:

however (and that's a big however), it's a linen blend which is obviously a summer material. i don't think i can get away from it, and if i have my doubts, the dress is not returnable.
what a fashion conundrum...i so wish i had trinny and susannah here to help me with this all-important (not really, though that's what it sounds like in this post!) decision.

have you checked out their new show making over america, on tlc? they are so fun and have such a "cheeky" sense of humor. love it!
so, i am open to suggestions! what do you think the weather should be like? should i say the hell with it and wear a cute summer dress with a wrap? should i get the jcrew beautie above or try something else? have you seen any super cute (and relatively reasonably priced) options out there lately? please help, i need an intervention!

Even if the weather isn't as cool as the season/date should suggest, I'd work a "Fall" look for the wedding. I don't buy into old-school fashion rules, like not wearing linen after Labor Day - but I do think the linen strapless number looks a little too summery.
If you could find an (always flattering) wrap dress in a jewel tone, or a fantastic pattern - if you like. Maybe pair it with some of the great, black tights and coordinating shoes. Just a thought???
I have a similar conundrum...we're hosting a 40th b-day bash in a few weeks for my hubster. (We're traveling to TX for the event) The party is outdoors, and I know it'll still be hot, but I don't want to do a completely summer sundress, ya know? I don't know...knowing me, I'll end up choosing comfort over super-style!
Good luck!
Yeah, autumn events in warmer climates are hard to dress for. Besides some of the local boutiques, have you tried Ann Taylor? Some cute dresses for fall, although darker tones, not a lot of bright colors. J. Crew may be worth trying as well.
I agree, both about the linen possibly looking out of place even if the weather's nice and about checking Ann Taylor. They've never let me down in the dress department.
I think the dress from J. Crew would be perfect. I think you definitely have some leeway since it's a beach wedding in the South. That color doesn't scream summer, but it's light enough to not look ridiculously fall, either.
