confession of the day...

when we were growing up, my sister and i read a ridiculous amount of books. my love of reading was slightly diminished by the hundreds of pages i had to read of boring subjects such as torts and commercial transactions while in law school. these days, the constraints on my time that are imposed by being a full-time working mom seem to limit my reading to fashion and gossip magazines. over the past couple of months, i have found time to read this (i adore jen lancaster, so very funny), but wasn't able to finish either the shack or the time travelers wife, both of which are best-sellers. not sure why, i just couldn't bring myself to finish them - could be that pesky lack of time issue.

my sister suggested over the thanksgiving break that perhaps we could go to the theater and watch "new moon". i laughed at this, and noted that i wasn't interested in the twilight franchise, and even if i was, wouldn't i be behind since i had never even read any of the books? my sister quickly pointed out the error in my thinking, noting that twilight was (a) phenomenal, (b) not just for teens, and (c) a truly wonderful romantic story, one she liked even more than romeo and juliet. before she left for the weekend, she ran out and picked me up a copy of twilight and made me promise i would read it.

i picked it up on saturday, and by sunday night, i had read it cover to cover - mesmerized by every word! seriously, i could not put this book down! (even though my husband taunted me, asking me if i planned on asking the neighborhood teen set over for a sleepover to discuss whether we rooted for team edward or team jacob). what a wonderful love story and so well written. while i realize the intended audience of the series is young women, i can see why these books have mass appeal (much like harry potter). and dare i label a novel as ... sexy?? i think it is an apt description. as soon as i finished the book, i checked out on demand to see if twilight was a movie option - unfortunately it was not so it looks like i'll be making a trip to blockbuster one weekend soon. cannot wait to read the new moon, the second in the series...have you read any of the books? or am i the only female blogger over the age of 18 who will fess up that they love twilight??

Not at all! The books are fantastic. I'm pretty open-minded about genres, and after reading the Potter series had no shame whatsoever in diving right in. They're very easy to sink into and as women who were once teenage girls, there's alot going on we can relate to (well, maybe not the whole vampire thing, but you get my meaning).

Wonderful books, although the fourth is quite the doozy.

Enjoy watching the two available films. Obviously I don't know how you feel about books once they're put to screen-they can be done so well, or they're a complete train wreck. I will say this: you'll either love them, or you won't.

Have fun and welcome to the over 18 crowd of fans!

When I went to see Twilight, my friends and I were so embarrassed thinking that the theater would be full of teenage girls....it was ALL moms who had put the kids to bed and then come to the movie. Hilarious.

Don't worry, you're soooo not the only one! I love them too! The 1st movie is ok...I do like the books better. And as for New Moon, push through the book. It was prob my least favorite of all the 4 books, but still good! And the movie, well...swoon. :-) I feel goofy saying it, but I think it's true. Welcome to the addiction!

You're clearly not alone but you can't count me in. First of all that would require me to read - no! And second, my husband would murder me if I brought that into our house. He says he read a little bit of the first one and that it was so poorly written that he couldn't believe people were actually buying and reading it. He's super critical though and I haven't heard anyone else complain - I guess not considering how much money it's made!! So you just go right on enjoying your teenage cult classic because there are tons of others right there with you!

I admit I love the series as well. My husband laughs at me when I first starting reading the books. Now if I can just drag him to see New Moon.

I thought you were one of the ones that made fun of me when I was talking about how much I loved the Twilight series! Maybe it was Michelle...oh well. I loved all the books and I own the first movie so you can borrow mine anytime! Rich makes a ton of fun of me but I don't care!
Love,
Lavin

Hey sara! It's emily from work! I found your blog on your facebook and have been reading for a while but finally decided to comment. I love the twilight saga...I got sucked in a little over a year ago...definitely finish the series, the love story gets much much more intense and complicated (and sexy as you said :))! AND it's a little vacation away from work and life! :)

I hope you can find time to get to the Nutcracker - it's such a special occasion. In regard to the dress, I got it at Animal Crackers on Chenoweth Lane in St. Matthews. Great store for really nice kids' clothes. Happy Holidays!

I'm 34 and I LOVE Twilight!!! I read all four of the books in about one month in 2008 and couldn't wait for the movies! They aren't as good as the books, but the second one is much better!
