Hey ya'll! Boy, time flies when you're having fun - and when you're running after a very active 2 1/2 year old. Here we go again with a couple of weeks passing between blog posts - I've decided not to hand out the same tired excuses but to just jump right into things.
We had a wonderful Christmas - actually, it was more like 3 Christmas celebrations with different parts of our extended family. Alexandra thinks Christmas is an ongoing event - she asked me this past Sunday who was coming to visit her next and would they be bringing presents? Oh, and the little princess is still singing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," and talking about Mrs. Claus, too (because we are equal opportunists around here!). Seriously, she had a fantastic Christmas and received LOTS of wonderful presents - our families are entirely too generous (and Santa was generous to all of us, I might add!).
We're really moving along with Alexandra's big girl room, I can't wait to share pictures of the finished product! We move her into the big girl bed this weekend, and I must admit I'm nervous about it. While adventurous during waking hours, Alexandra has always been happily confined to her crib, never once trying to jump out during the wee morning hours. I'm a little worried that the big girl bed might be too much for her - namely, too big and unconfined. Moms of toddlers before me, do you have any words of wisdom to help us in making this transition as smooth as possible?
Wondering what the title to this blog post is referring to? Well, that would be the little man in my stomach, who happens to be 32 weeks along tomorrow. I can hardly believe we are 7 weeks away - this pregnancy has flown by, probably because I'm so busy with work and chasing after Alexandra. I hope the next several weeks go by fast as well, because I'm tired of not being able to bend over and put on my shoes. :) Seriously, I require assistance with donning/doffing all footwear and pants right now. Thankfully, my husband is always willing to help me in getting ready in the mornings! The little guy still doesn't have a name - we've narrowed it down to 6 (!!!) with Ryan and I both having favorites. We will probably just wait till we see his sweet face to make a decision as to which name suits him best (much to the chagrin of the inquiring minds of our family and friends who have been on baby name watch for months!). He moves alot, but unlike Alexandra - who was more of a kicker and jabber - baby boy likes to do full body rolls. This is something I didn't expect at this point in gestation as I figured he was getting a little too big for that. We were watching Inception on Saturday night when I felt this immense pressure under my right rib cage. I looked down and laughed because he had obviously rolled and was wedged up on my right side, as the right side of my abdomen stuck out twice as much as the left side! I love the kicks, jabs, pokes, prods and rolls - such a neat experience, one I know I will surely miss as this will be our last pregnancy.
Finally, thoughts on the new year - 2010 was an adventure, and I'm fairly certain 2011 will be a complete roller coaster ride what with the addition to our family. I'm not one to make new year resolutions, but there are a few things I'd like to aspire to this coming year:
(1) Slow down and savor all the little moments that I would miss if I'm stuck to my iPhone, or laptop, or Kindle, or any other form of electronic gadgetry for that matter.
(2) Really learn all the ins and outs of my DSLR and take pictures more regularly. I've really slacked off with my picture taking the past few months, and I believe that is because I'm frustrated with the quality of my photographs. Maybe trying to find time to attend a photography class could be a goal?
(3) Speaking of photography, I'd love to take and post at least one picture a week. While Project 365 sounds fantastic, I just don't think it is realistic for moi to take at least one picture daily, but one a week should be realistic.
(4) Not be so hard on myself, realizing I am not Wonder Woman and THAT IS OKAY. It is impossible to be the perfect wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend, attorney, blogger, etc. - I cannot be everything to everyone and also lose myself in the process. I will try my darnedest to be everything I can to those I love, but also I will try to realize that no one expects perfection and it is an unattainable goal anyway.
(5) The last one is to get in better shape after little guy is born. I'm not going to set some goal for myself as to a certain number of pounds because I think that is a recipe for disaster, but I think a general plan to improve my physical health and well being is a good and realistic approach (and if I just so happen to lose a few lbs along the way, added bonus!).
Will try to post again very soon and include pictures - no one likes to read pictureless posts!

When we moved our little one to a big girl bed it took about two weeks before she realized she could get out of it herself! No more crib bars. Once she did realize it we had a few 3 am back to bed sessions. We put up a baby gate in her door for a few weeks and that took care of the problem, once she realized she couldn't get out she stayed in bed.
No advice really on the bed thing because Colin made the transition pretty seamlessly. The bedrails help and then we add pillows along the side for further containment.
I couldn't agree more with every one of your resolutions. Not being one to make them myself, these are all things I aspire to do/become as well. I feel like most of them are more of a lifetime commitment than just 1 year though, so in keeping with #4, I try not to torture myself by writing them down. Good luck and I'll add a #6 - to see you sometime this year (:
I think your 2011 goals are fantastic. I'm happy to hear that y'all had such a great Christmas! Happy 2011!
Glad you had a wonderful Xmas! All of our family lives near, so every holiday is celebrated with way too many gifts! Oh, we are so lucky, but I'm afraid that my children think this is the NORM!
And WOW! Sounds like baby countdown is on! How exciting! I hope that you feel all through!
I giggled when I thought about moving our girls into their big beds. Our last, Laney, climbeb out of her crib early, forcing us to buy her big girl bed early. We got a security video camera...night vision, etc. When we would see her get out of her bed (on our screen in our bedroom), we would tell her to get back in bed. It totally freaked her out and she had no idea how we knew! GREAT DEVICE!
How exciting - the big day is approaching! Your New Year's Resolutions are all good. I'm with you on more picture-taking. I really need to do a better job. Your comment the other day about your experience with a make-up artist made me laugh. They can go crazy with the paint, can't they??
I'm trying to keep my weight realistic too... I haven't really set a weightloss goal for "post baby" but I did decide that I will run a 5K in October and that I want to run it faster than I did the last time (32:10). I really think that's possible and achievable so I'm going with it.
Isn't feeling your babe cool? I have really started feeling mine lately and even got a little worried today when I didn't feel her for a while... Its definitely awesome.
Glad to hear that you all are doing well!
Oh i have been an awful blogger lately too!! that just happens with a 2nd pregnancy i suppose!
Addi transitioned beautifully into her toddler bed. I too was worried, but she did great! At school they have a rule that when they wake up from nap they must stay on their cots until a teacher comes to get them. we went along with that same rule at home. when she wakes up she is to call for one of us and we will come get her. now, 9 times out of 10 we walk in and her bed is piled high with books (meaning she's gotten out of bed to get her books) but she gets right back in and reads and plays until we come get her. you might try that or at least see what routine they use at school and use that same approach. it will surprise you how well she does!
I haven't commented yet, but i do SO LOVE the owl things you have selected for baby boy! so fun and you know that i do have a love for owls:) i went to the site you suggested for bedding and of course, i loved it all!! i'm still shopping around and trying to narrow down my choices. thank you so much for the recommendation!
Our daughter is about the same age as yours. EllaGrace decided to crawl out of her crib at the end of summer. We found this great alarm clock that turns green when it is time to wake.
We just taught her that if the light isn't green, she needs to roll over and go back to sleep. You can fine it here:
http://www.amazon.com/Wake-Childrens-Alarm-Clock-Nightlight/dp/B002RNKOM2
It took about a month to get her settled, but now she toddles into around room saying "my light it green!!!"
Best of luck in everything!
Just wanted to let you know about 503 Photography workshops--Jessica is great!
This is the one I took over a year ago and it helped to jump start everything.
Check out my website--I am improving everyday! Good Luck!

Hi there! I just saw you become a follower over at my blog (www.prettysmitten.blogspot.com) and wanted to stop over and say hi! And funny enough, we're in similar situations...we have a two year old boy and thinking of moving him to a twin bed...but I feel the same as you! He doesn't climb out of his crib and seems quite content, he's just getting quite big! Think we'll hold off a bit longer on the transition though. Looking forward to reading how it goes with your little girl. And congrats on your pregnancy!
I can't WAIT to see pics of A's room! Hoping she transitioned smoothly for you! And, I also can't wait to hear what name you guys pick out :) Love your 2011 goals!
Love your goals for 2011! Very similar here! Although, I still find myself on the laptop or Kindle often!
I also like the 52-Week photo idea as opposed to the grueling 365!
We went through funny methods of finding names for both of our kiddos, so it's humorous to me that you have not settled on a name for your baby!
Good luck & best wishes!!!
