As daycare was closed due to the snow, I spent the past 1 1/2 days with this little cutie:
I think I'm going to start calling her Curly Locks - her curls have a mind of their own. We have had a nice couple of days - lots of coloring and even more Elmo. However, while I've enjoyed my time with the little one, I'm starting to lose it a little bit and think it will be good to return to the office tomorrow - toddler tantrums in a confined space make a mommy's head ache (doubly so when combined with the fact that I am battling a head cold). Plus, getting work done with a toddler pulling on your hand every 5 minutes to go on a "walk" around the house is a near impossible feat.
Once upon a time (you know, pre-career, pre-husband, pre-child), I would have used a snow day as an excuse to snuggle up someplace warm and spend the whole day reading. This is a love of mine that has been sorely neglected lately (I do not count doctor depositions as "pleasure reading"). Each night as I crawl into bed, weary from the day, a stack of magazines and books taunts me from my bedside table:
Does anyone else's nightstand look like this, or am I the only one that is building a small personal library? A few of these I am reading actively, but several I have picked up and put down without delving too far into the book. I just can't seem to make myself put them up though, promising myself that when I "find time" (I almost snorted, I laughed so hard typing that!) I'll pick these books up and finish them.
Oh, and for those keeping record, there are 4 magazines and 7 books on my nightstand. They are, in no particular order:
(1) Most recent issue of US Weekly (rubbish, I know, but a guilty pleasure)
(2) Most recent issue of In Style (with Anne Hathaway on the cover, LOVE her)
(3) Most recent issue of Lucky (with Keri Russell on the cover)
(4) The special Oscar edition of Entertainment Weekly
(5) Twilight (which I fully admit to reading a second time in no less than 3 months)
(6) Food Rules by Michael Pollan (I read about this recently on a blog - I can't remember which - and am intrigued. I think Pollan was recently on Oprah to discuss this book - not that I buy into everything Oprah puts out there)
(7) Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen (which I picked up last week after reading some really great reviews of it here)
(8) Understanding Exposure (still trying to improve my photography skills with my DSLR)
(9) Suck Your Stomach In and Put Some Color On by Shellie Rushling Tomlinson (I swear that is the name of the book! It's a southern humor book - the tagline reads "What southern mamas tell their daughters that the rest of ya'll should know too.")
(10) The Time-Travelers Wife (I picked this up in the airport a few months ago and read the first chapter but have gotten no farther - not really sure why but would really like to finish this one)
(11) New Moon, the second in the Twilight series (yeah, I know, I admit I have a problem - that's the first step).

I want to be a Kentucky girl ;)..lovely blog here! Nice to meet you!
Amy
I am just now getting to read... some. Of course that is only if I can stay up past the kids bedtime. So I hear ya girl!
I am so glad to see someone else has stacks of books & magazines on their nightstand. I have no less than 8 books stacked on/under my nightstand right now. Plus magazines. And a book light so I can read at night and not wake my husband. It's a disease I tell you. And no shame in loving Twilight...I'm thinking about reading it again myself. :)
i am a magazine queen. however, any more by the time i go to bed to read them i'm just tired and fall asleep reading them. i have a big stack i need to go through. understanding exposure is on my bedside table too...it's really good so far! i'd like to read that book about southern humor. oh, and you'll have to let us know what you think about water for elephants.
first off--I love this post! I don't love anything more than a snowy day--reading! so- Water for elephants is fab,(you will love it) and you are so lucky that you are just starting the twilight series! I read them all too fast! I loved them all, and I am not ashamed to admit it:){team edward!} I can relate to all the snow business--I can't believe how much you have! it looks like Utah:)
ps--love those blonde curls--darling~
I have 3 of those same books on my nightstand... along with many others! I have Twilight, New Moon, and The Time Traveler's Wife sitting right by the bed. I've read them all and if you haven't, you must. They are all amazing.
I love snow cream! And yes I so remember making it as a kid! And yes, your nightstand looks just like mind ... add a pair of glasses, a highlighter, and a few more baby books and it's exactly the same. I usually have several catalogs too collecting dust on my nightstand as well.
Speaking of books, have you read "The Help" ... that's next on my list!
ps -- love curls! Scott asked me the other day if we could grow Caroline's hair out long. Ofcourse I said "yes". What a funny but sweet request!
Hello! I've been reading your blog for a while, but this is my first comment! I, too, have a stack of magazines and books by the bed. Unfortunately, I'm usually so tired I barely make it through my evening devotions!
Strange question for you - where did you get the window treatments (or the fabric for them) in the background of the picture with your daughter? I love those colors! And she's a doll, too!
your photos are beautiful. :)
Books? What are those? No books on my nightstand - nothing to get in between me and my sleep! Don't apologize for US Weekly - it catches you up on all the gossip of your "best friends" in Hollywood. Afterall, what would you and your girlfriends talk about?
Alexandra's hair is getting so long and I love the curls!
Scary. It is just scary how much we have in common:) I too have a lamp, monitor, pile of "when I have time" books and a half full bottle of water! Funny stuff!
I just finished Twilight (read it in about a week) and I'm starting on New Moon now. They are so quick to read. I have a stack on my nightstand too. Usually about 5 or 6 at a time.
That snow looks gorgeous! Love those curly locks!! My nightstand is full of books that Im not reading but have been wanting too! I love that Us weekly issue!
I am SO picking up "Suck Your Stomach In and Put Some Color On" - sounds exactly like my grandmother and my mom! Hilarious.
Yes, I look just like you.....tons of magazines and books everywhere. As a matter of fact, I have some of the books that you are reading. I have heard good things about Water for Elephants and The Time Travelers Wife. I just haven't read them yet.
I also have the Understanding Exposure which I really need to read:)
Sounds like my recent snow days with the kids! I actually conducted a conference call with a child on my lap, our cleaning lady in the kitchen, my husband on his computer in the other room and a toddler thankfully taking a nap! And, your bedside table is very similar to mine, except I have a huge stack of books also standing next to the bed. Try to finish "The Time Traveler's Wife" - it's amazing! :)
Your blog is ADORABLE!!!!!! I love Curly Locks...she is stunning!
I am your newest follower. I found your blog through Courtneys awards. I do hope you will come by and follow back. I love meeting new bloggy friends. Happy Vday-Juliana with A Blonde Walks Into A Blog
