Splish Splash

For her 2nd birthday, Alexandra received a water table* from her Mimi and Poppy (aka my parents). The temperature broke into the 90s today, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to break out the water table. I put Alexandra in a romper, slathered her up with sunscreen (even though we were in the shade, you can never be too sure), gathered up my camera and a big, fluffy beach towel, and we hit the water.

* Note, this is water table, not to be confused with a water BOARD. My sister, Rachel, kept repeating at Alexandra's birthday party that she had received a water board from my parents - no, the grandparents weren't handing out methods of torture!

I believe that approximately one minute into it, Alexandra's front was doused.

Her little Buddha belly looked so pronounced with the wet romper stuck next to her skin!

With the humidity, Alexandra's curls really kicked into high gear...

This next one just makes us laugh!

"See Mommy? I like dousing myself with water!"

It's truly amazing to me how something as simple as a plastic Silo cup can provide such amusement for a child...

If the heat and the humidity of a Kentucky summer do not wilt us, I have a feeling our backyard is going to be a constant source of entertainment and fun for our family over the next few months. Even yours truly gets in on the act and joins Alexandra on the double seater swing!

Such adorable pictures!!!
Wish we had your weather out here. We instead have rain & wind.

Funny how the simplest of things amuse children. My kids will spend hours playing with straws & band-aids. NO JOKE :)-

Those curls-that smile! Alexandra is so precious and obviously in her element. What a wonderful time you all must have had watching her!

Love the belly and those curls! You're so right about the simplest items entertaining them. I'm not buying baby boy anything - just giving him Tupperware, boxes, and measuring spoons! Those were all Colin's favorites.

We had a great time at dinner with you guys. I'm not sure when we'll get to do it again but I'm already looking forward to it!

I love watching my children play at the water table! Isn't it the best when, as you mentioned, something so simple brings so much joy to our little ones? We've had a couple of days in the 80's and used the water table then, but we are looking forward to a summer filled having fun around our water table. It seems to be one of the few activities where my children have super long attention spans! Adorable photos...you are a great photographer!

That water table is the best. We have one and they still love it. Now we set it next to the pool and the water gets dumped from one to the other. entire afternoon of fun and what we plan to do ALL summer while I am on maternity leave. summer fun, here we come!

I"m envious of your fun backyard! Our currently has nothing bug sod. At least that was good enough for a sprinkler and some water fun, right?! It got up to the mid 90s in Chicago which is never fun...way too much humidity. But I'm still excited it's summer!

I LOVE those curls! We have a curly Q in our house too and I just love it. Very sweet. So funny that kids have these fancy water contraptions now. When I was little we sprayed each other with the water hose and thought it was the best thing ever. Ha!

You are so sweet and such a good mom. I really want you to enjoy every minute of it. I turned around an my son just turned 16. It flies by!

Those curls! I just can't get over them. How many of us would maim someone seriously for that head of hair?

Great photos, by the way. And I laughed at the water board / table idea, though occasionally this south/southwest heat does feel like a torture implement to this Californian!
