To my great surprise, the posts regarding Kentucky Derby fashion seem to be a real hit! I am happy to report with great relief that this past weekend I finalized all FOUR of the outfits that I will be wearing to the track during Derby week, including hats. Once the hats are finished, I'll be sure to post pictures!
I thought I would gear this fashion post toward the Kentucky Oaks. The Oaks takes place on Friday, the day before the running of the Kentucky Derby. The day is capped off with the running of the Kentucky Oaks race, which is for 3 year-old fillies. Last year, I had the distinct pleasure of watching this beautiful filly, Rachel Alexandra, blow the crowd away and win the Oaks race. How could I not love this beautiful animal when she shares her name with two of the most important people in my life? (My sister is Rachel, my daughter is Alexandra)

Churchill Downs has deemed this day "Ladies First" in honor of the fillies, and really goes all out for the day, decorating the grounds in pink and encouraging all of those in attendance to wear pink. A portion of all ticket proceeds benefits the Susan G. Komen Foundation. There are pretty pink touches everywhere, from the pink lilies draped over the neck of the filly who wins the Oaks race, to the official cocktail, which is not surprisingly called the Oaks Lily. Here's Kim Kardashian enjoying her Oaks Lily last year...

With the spirit of the Oaks race in mind, here's a few great pink items I thought would be perfect for Oaks:
A beautiful Milly dress found here (you have to love the chevron print!)

Lilly Pulitzer is always a sure thing for cute pink dresses:

Of course, you can't forget the pink hat....here's Jessica Simpson's version from a few years ago:

The next couple are from Dee's, which I already raved about here.

Here are some examples of pink attire from last year's Oaks (All of these photos are credited to the official Kentucky Oaks website, which you can find here):

Even Al Roker from the Today Show got into the act, "borrowing" the pink hat of a local news reporter last year!

See how much fun it is to dress up in pink for the Kentucky Oaks?! Of course, it is also true that there can be too much of a good thing...

Tee hee...I stumbled upon that picture while doing a Google search for pink hats and couldn't help myself!
On a side note, thanks to Pink Preppy Lilly Lover, a very fashionable gal who knows a thing or two about dressing in pink, for giving me the following award today!

And because I know that there are some grandparents, aunts and uncles out there who check in on this blog daily for pictures of my sweet little girl and NOT for my thoughts on Derby fashion, here are a couple of pictures from this morning to meet their daily Alexandra needs...

What's wrong with the last pink picture? She has color coordinated every detail of her outfit, down to the lace gloves. I bet the dress is a nice silk tafeta! Too funny.

I can't wait to see all your dresses. Can you believe that my first year in Kentucky, I will be in Florida:)
I thought that was funny. Move from Florida and now live in Kentucky and won't even be here for the Derby. I will enjoy hearing all about it and glad that my hubby will be with me in Fl. and not having to make sure the trains get there (to the Derby) on time.

So fun! I can't wait to see your outfits! Alexandra looks adorable as always... Her curls are too cute!!

And you asked where I got my daughter's dress...I want to say it was Target last summer but I'm not positive. Either way, it's considered "old" now. I can't believe it still fit her yesterday!

So jealous you are going to Derby/Oaks!
Sara,
